Jazz Singers perform April 23

The Glenn Korff School of Music’s UNL Jazz Singers, with special guests UNL Honors Jazz Quintet, will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 23 in Westbrook Music Building’s Performance Hall Room 130. The concert is free and open to the public. 

The Jazz Singers are under the direction of David von Kampen, lecturer in the Glenn Korff School of Music. 

The UNL Honors Jazz Quintet includes Parker Averill, trumpet; Camden Smith, saxophone; Luke Eckles, piano; Evan LeBouoef, bass; and Nathan Bjoin, drums. 

They will open the concert with a program that includes “Kari’s Konundrum” by LeBouef; “In Your Own Sweet Way” by Dave Brubeck, arranged by LeBouef; “Giant Steps” by John Coltrane, arranged by Kenny Garrett; and “Mr. Clean” by Freddie Hubbard, arranged by LeBouef.

In the second half of the program, the UNL Jazz Singers will perform “Green and Gold” by Lianne La Havas, Jamie Lidell and Matt Hales; “America” by Paul Simon; “Little Love” by Gabriel Kahane; “The Valley” by Ethan Gruska; and “A Happy Thought” by Kurt Elling and Stu Mindeman. All arrangements are by von Kampen.
