Lois B. Brinton, 96, of Lincoln, a University of Nebraska alumna and retired member of the University Communication and Marketing team, died May 10.
Brinton was born Nov. 10, 1928 in Crete, Nebraska, to George and Eva (Burchell) Hogle. She graduated from Crete High School in 1946 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from NU in 1951.
After earning her degree, she met Robert Brinton. The couple married on Aug. 29. 1952, and had three children — Daniel, Brenda and Laura.
Brinton was a stay-at-home mother until 1980, when she began working in what today is University Communication and Marketing’s photography unit. She helped schedule and organize photos produced by the unit until her retirement at age 90 in 2019.
One of her final tasks at UNL included a partnership with the University Archives and Special Collections to catalog the University Communications Photography Collection. The work reviewed more than 80 years of campus history captured on film and converted it to digital files.
“I always worried about what would happen to these files once I left,” Brinton said in an April 24, 2008 campus feature. “Now I get the chance to help take care of them and make sure they will be well preserved. That means a lot to me.”
In her free time, Brinton enjoyed crocheting, including making blankets for friends and family. She was a devoted Husker fan, rarely missing a Husker volleyball or football game.
Survivors include her son, Daniel (Jody) Brinton; daughter, Laura (Glen) McBride; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert; her parents; daughter, Brenda; and a brother.
Visitation is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 15 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St. A graveside service is 11 a.m. May 16 at Lincoln Memorial Park and Cemetery, 6700 S. 14th St.
Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
