Six students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s PGA Golf Management program have earned scholarships through the PGA WORKS John and Tamara Lundgren Scholars Program. The students were among 15 recipients from nine universities.

The $8,000 scholarships were presented to students working toward PGA of America membership through one of the 16 accredited PGA Golf Management university programs across the nation.

“We couldn’t be prouder of our students,” said Joe Canny, director of Nebraska’s program. “To have six of the 15 scholarship recipients come from Nebraska speaks volumes about their talent, work ethic and commitment to the game. It also reflects the strength of our program and the opportunities it provides for students to grow into future leaders of the golf industry.”

Scholarship recipients at Nebraska, listed alphabetically by hometown with their year in school, are:

  • Sioux City, Iowa: Isabella Boyle, senior
  • Olathe, Kansas: Mason McKenna, senior
  • Osakis, Minnesota: Chase Triebenbach, senior
  • Ballwin, Missouri: Peyton Cusick, junior
  • Manahawkin, New Jersey: Alexander Henbest, junior
  • New Delhi, India: Atirath Roy, senior

PGA WORKS is a workforce strategic initiative designed to provide equal opportunity to a robust pool of students from a wide range of backgrounds who are prepared to ascend to key employment positions in the industry. Scholarship recipients must be pursuing bachelor’s degrees in a golf-related major, with the goal of obtaining PGA of America membership. Since its inception in 2018, 108 PGA WORKS scholarships have been awarded, totaling $864,000.

“It is truly an honor to have been selected for this scholarship for a second year,” Boyle said. “My most valuable part of my time in the UNL PGA Golf Management program has been the required 16 months of internship. The internships have helped me gain not only hands-on experience, but also navigate what type of golf facility I want to work at in the future, and more specifically which area of the golf industry.”

Triebenbach said graduating with PGA certification is his goal, but the scholarship will ensure he has “bountiful experiences” before he starts working.

“The most valuable part of my experience is connecting with so many individuals who are a part of the golf industry or will be one day,” he said. “Connections are key, especially when trying to find internships and a future job.”

Scholarship recipients were selected based on academic record, leadership in school and community activities, honors and work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations, unique personal or family circumstances, an outside appraisal, active participation in the game and playing ability.
