Bio

Loukia K. Sarroub is an expert in literacy studies and adolescent literacy. She uses sociolinguistic analysis to study language and culture, exploring how social factors like class, region, gender and ethnicity influence language use and variation. Her background includes anthropology and education, cross-cultural studies, immigrant communities in the United States and Europe, youth cultures, and Middle Eastern populations in the United States. She has conducted fieldwork and research in Yemeni and Iraqi communities. As chair of the Department of Teacher, Learning & Teacher Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she is highly informed about teacher education in Nebraska and across the United States and offers perspectives about education policy and the teacher shortage currently affecting Nebraska schools.
