Mila Saskova-Pierce (right) protested the 1968 military occupation of Prague in Czechoslovakia, and was photographed as she translated Czech for the Russian soldiers. She fled the country and eventually came to Nebraska as a professor of Czech and Russian. She maintained close ties to the Czech community, and was tapped in October as the honorary Czech consulate for Nebraska.
