Michael James demonstrates his hand-quilting method for workshop participants at Strawberry Fayre, a quilt shop in Stockbridge, England, in 1980. The shop’s owners, Jenny and Alec Hutchison, were responsible for bringing James to England for the first time in 1980. Through the ’80s and ’90s, he lectured and taught workshops there and throughout Europe annually, networking widely with fellow quilt artists.
