Biochar is a charcoal-like product, derived from a 2,000-year-old practice that converts wood or agricultural waste into a valuable soil amendment.  A biochar talk is scheduled for March 28 in the East Union.

Char is spread onto research plots at the Mitchell Agriculture Lab, which is located north of the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research and Extension Center. Grant funds are available to assist the development of biochar in Nebraska and Kansas.
