Two professional development opportunities to be offered in May

A woman stands in front of a seated group of people as she presents a workshop.

As the academic year winds down, May is the perfect time for University of Nebraska–Lincoln staff to focus on professional growth and workplace excellence. Organizational Development and Training is hosting two professional developments sessions this month designed to help you navigate tough conversations and build lasting professional communities.

NSPIRE: Navigating Employee Performance Issues For University Staff and Supervisors will be 1 to 3 p.m. May 7 in the Nebraska Union, Chimney Rock Room. Register here.

Addressing performance concerns can be one of the most daunting tasks for any leader. NSPIRE takes the guesswork out of these critical moments. This scenario-based session provides practical scripts and strategies specifically tailored to our university environment. You’ll learn how to diagnose performance gaps with clarity and lead supportive, effective conversations that help your team members get back on track.

NRICH: From Impersonal Network to a Meaningful Community, Thriving as a Young Professional will be 1:30 to 3 p.m. May 21 in the Nebraska Union, Platte River Room. Register here.

Networking is about more than just swapping LinkedIn profiles. For staff members early in their careers, building a true sense of belonging is the key to long-term success. Join presenters Natalie Becerra and Lizzie Vietz as they demystify the process of building high-quality professional relationships using the Discover, Engage and Advance framework. This interactive workshop offers actionable strategies to move beyond "networking" and start building a real community.
