The International Quilt Museum, Nebraska State Historical Society and El Centro de las Américas are partnering for a Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration on Nov. 1.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nebraska History Museum, 131 Centennial Mall North, and 1 to 4 p.m. at the International Quilt Museum, 1523 N. 33rd St. Both locations will feature musical performances, all-ages art projects and story time, and guests who visit both can enter a drawing for prizes.

Día de los Muertos is a holiday traditionally celebrated Nov. 1 and 2 that involves people gathering to pay respects to and remember friends and family members who have died. The observance includes the creation of home altars (ofrendas) and the serving of traditional cuisine.

The event is made possible by the International Quilt Museum, Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation, El Centro de las Américas, LUX Center for the Arts, Lincoln City Libraries, Nebraska Commission on Latino Americans, City of Lincoln Commission on Human Rights and Lincoln Arts Council.
